Formation
Kerala Fire Service Association is a frontline organization in the Kerala Fire and Rescue Services Department. The organization primarily consists of five different categories of employees comprising Grade Assistant Station Officer, Senior Fire and Rescue Officer, Senior Fire and Rescue Officer (Mechanic), Fire & Rescue Officer, Fire and Rescue Officer (Driver). KFSA was established in the year 1981 as per Government Order No. 31/1981/Home, Dated: 20/02/1981. The first serving President was Sri. George, Kundara, Kollam and General Secretary was Sri. Sukumaran, Ernakulam. Every year 17th February is being observed as the foundation day of this organization.
Activities
The focus of main activity of this organisation
a. Extends Economic or Medical aid to members, who are sustained fatal injury while on duty or to those members who are seriously ill.
b. Gives impetus to provide financial assistance to the family of the members who dies while in service.
c. All units affiliated to the organization observes the foundation day as commemoration day every year with great enthusiasm fervour.
Election
The Office bearers of this organisation elected through panel voting system as per bylaw of the Association. The Local Units spread across the state play significant role in the activities, At present this organization constitutes 124 Local Units. Every station holds a single unit. In each single unit one person is elected for 10 members (the ratio of 1:10) to the Regional Committee. Among the five members in the Regional Committee one person is nominated to the State Committee. Now the organisation consists of one State Committee and Six Regional Committees. The State Executive holds the key role and control in the functioning of the organisation. The President and the Secretary of the Regional Committees are the ex-officio members of the State Committee.
